WhatsApp does not work: causes and solutions

While WhatsApp is one of the most widely used and secure messaging applications, it is not exempt from presenting some flaws from time to time.

For this reason, in the following article we will explain what to do if WhatsApp does not work, the causes and solutions to the most common problems.

Network failures

If messages are not being sent, there may be a problem with the Internet connection. This is a common failure that can occur at any time, therefore, it is recommended to check the network status. If this is the cause, try connecting to another network.

If the fault is in the data network, contact the telephone service provider or move to find better coverage. If the problem persists, just wait for the signal to be restored.

App server problems

Although it has only happened on rare occasions, it is possible that the cause of the malfunction of the application is due to an error in WhatsApp’s servers. When this happens thousands of users have problems communicating, therefore, it is recommended to check if it is a large-scale failure.

When this happens, the only solution is to wait for the problem to be fixed directly from the platform’s servers. Usually these types of bugs can be fixed in a matter of minutes, although in some cases it has taken a couple of hours to fix.

Forces the app to stop

In case the problem is due to a fault with the application, you can try to force it and thus stop the application process. To do so, do the following:

  1. Go to “Settings/Settings > Applications > WhatsApp“.
  2. Then click on “FORCE STOP“.WhatsApp does not work - Causes and solutions - Force stop the app - Step 2
  3. Finally, check if the error has been resolved.

Note: the name of some sections and the access path may vary depending on the model and version of the Operating System that the mobile device has.

Clear app cache

The cache is the cause of several failures in the applications, for this reason it is possible to verify if the origin of the problem is due to this. Clearing the cache also deletes the temporary files stored by the app, to get rid of these you need to do the following:

  1. Go to “Settings > Applications > WhatsApp > Storage and cache“.
  2. Then click on “DELETE STORAGE“.WhatsApp does not work - Causes and solutions - Clear app cache - Step 2
  3. To finish, check if the WhatsApp error has been resolved.

Reboot the device

In case the problem is due to an error in the operation of the mobile system, try restarting it. This will stop the computer and all running applications. Then check if the app has returned to normal operation.

Check for available updates

If the problem persists, it is likely due to an application error. In these cases you can upgrade to the most recent version of this and to do so do the following:

  1. Log in to Google Play and click on the profile icon.
  2. Then go to “My apps and games“.
  3. Finally, check if an update is available. If so, the “Update” button will appear next to the WhatsApp app.WhatsApp does not work - Causes and solutions - Check if there is any update available

Uninstall the app and install it again.

In case none of the above procedures have solved the WhatsApp problem, the last option is to try to uninstall the app and install it again. This will allow you to download a more recent and error-free version.

This way you can fix WhatsApp errors, in a short time and without complications.
